Emergency Services

A sudden illness or injury may require a veterinarian’s attention right away.

At Westfield Animal Hospital, we believe that an important part of being your family’s medical team is making sure you have access to emergency care. Our fully trained doctors and technicians are equipped to handle most emergency situations during office hours.

We do ask that you call prior to coming in, if possible, so that we can be prepared for your arrival or refer you to an emergency veterinary practice if your pet is suffering a particularly severe emergency.

When to Seek Emergency Veterinary Care

The easiest answer as to whether you should seek emergency care for a pet is when you feel his or her medical condition is serious and cannot wait. However, the following general situations should help you determine if you need to seek out emergency care for your pet:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Acute abdominal swelling
  • Electric shock
  • Excessive vomiting or diarrhea
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Exhibits symptoms of heat stroke
  • Repetitive and prolonged seizures
  • High or low temperature (more than 104 or less than 100 degrees)
  • Unable to urinate or defecate

Please call Westfield Animal Hospital at 908-233-6030 if your pet is experiencing any of these symptoms.
