The Receptionist supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. You will perform a variety of clerical and customer service work in providing support to the hospital, and to clients during often high stress situations.
Westfield Animal Hospital is a very busy, multi-doctor practice that offers plenty of opportunities for our employees to grow. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and quick-learning individual to join our team!
Tasks include:
- Coordinate the flow of pets and owners in the lobby; placates owners distressed by long waits, scheduling glitches, and other problems.
- Capable of answering multiple phone lines
- Identify potential emergencies in person, and over the phone, and schedule those appointments appropriately.
- Organize and process all payment plans, billing statements, and collections.
- Perform cashiering duties; process refunds, returns, and credits as needed.
- Responds to inquiries about the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats; refers to appropriate department/staff member as needed.
- Input data to practice management software to check pets in; make simple postings to accounts; compile data for various reports.
- Receive and distribute incoming mail; and process outgoing mail.
- Coordinate and schedule appointments; provide clients with appointment reminders and any special instructions; call clients whose pets have overdue treatments.
- Respond to client emails; type and edit a variety of correspondence, and process faxes.
- Able to learn basic veterinary medicine terminology.
- Become familiar with retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives and be able to confidently discuss with clients.
- Use Windows based computer systems, word processing, email, web search and other skills needed to effectively use software.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, and/or experience.
- Knowledge of clerical procedures such as alphabetizing files and records.
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holiday.
- Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
- Some moderately physically demanding work, involving lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.

The Kennel Assistant supports and adds value to an efficient organization dedicated to quality care and exceptional service. This position supports veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment; feeding, exercising and grooming pets; preparing and sanitizing surgery suites; restraining and handling pets; monitoring the well-being of boarding and day care patients; and performing basic clerical work.
Essential Functions:
- Provides compassionate care to pets
- Receives animals to be admitted weighing them upon entry; ensures that they have proper identification and records their respective locations
- Examines patients for external parasites such as fleas and/or ticks
- Communicates in a positive manner with owners and ensures that they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s)
- Gives hospital and kennel tours; highlights key features that differentiate our kennel/hospital from others in the area
- Feeds animals as prescribed by the attending Veterinarian or as the owner has requested; records appetites; water intake, as well as fecal and urine production
- Recognizes and reports any unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors and monitors pets for signs of distress or disease.
- Gives baths to and brushes pets
- Assists Veterinarian s and technicians with the administration of medications or with pet restraint
- Maintains the cleanliness of the hospital each day; cleans equipment and facilities using chemicals and supplies; ensures the safe use of chemicals
- Follows a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing all cages, runs, wards and related areas; changes litter boxes and food/water bowls
- Completes the weekly and monthly chore list to maintain hospital cleanliness, equipment, and overall appearance of the hospital
- Correctly prioritizes tasks
- Maintains laundry for the kennel, grooming, and hospital
- Provides patients with fresh, clean bedding when appropriate
- Walks or brings dogs into the yard for exercising
- Maintains the grounds of the property including waste disposal; responsible for light maintenance of landscape upkeep and general building maintenance
- Prepares pets for discharge; gathers toys, bedding, medications, and food; checks pets for cleanliness, and measures and records their exit weights for comparison against their entry weights
- Releases pets to their owners as directed; ensures that every animal released is clean and properly groomed prior to their release
- Understands and carries out oral and written directions
- Performs other duties as assigned

Job description
Westfield Animal Hospital is a busy, multi doctor practice that offers plenty of opportunities for our employees to grow. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic, and quick learning individual to join our team!
Requirements:
- Providing compassion care to both pets and their owners
- Being knowledgeable with vaccines, ear cytologys, and blood tests
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, vaccines, bandaging and wrapping wounds
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients of all sizes
- Knowledge on the use of anesthesia equipment and being able to monitor a pet under anesthesia/sedation
- Fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging and security of controlled drugs
- Endotracheal intubation and extubation
- Understanding the use of common drugs, effects, and potential reactions to patients
- Administering IV, IM, and SQ injections to patients
- Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, IV fluids, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; updates database in an accurate and timely manners
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education, and/or experience.
- Two or more years of experience with veterinary appointments performing above duties.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) preferred.
- Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires a lot of lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays.
