Exotic Pet Care

Westfield Animal Hospital provides complete veterinary care for all exotic pets including birds, reptiles, snakes, pocket pets (hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, mice, etc.) rabbits, chinchilas and sugar gliders. Dr. Anthony Loomis has treated exotic animals all of his career and understands the unique health care needs they have. We are actively involved in numerous exotic pet organizations and Dr. Loomis regularly attends continuing education courses in exotic pet medicine. We are able to offer you and your exotic pets the most up-to-date diagnostics and treatments available. At Westfield Animal Hospital, we have the equipment, training, and know-how necessary to treat your exotic pet.

Exotic Pet Consultation

This visit includes a complete physical examination, husbandry and nutritional counseling, disease screening and laboratory testing, if necessary. At Westfield Animal Hospital, our veterinarians and staff will take the time to make sure you understand your exotic pet’s individual needs. Most exotic pet illnesses can be prevented with proper nutrition and housing. We also want to make sure you know what symptoms to look for if your exotic pet were to become ill and how to properly treat them.

Post-Purchase Examinations

Welcome your new exotic pet into your family with a post-purchase exam to get started on the right path to a happy and healthy life. Before bringing your pet into your home, we recommend you ensure that he/she is healthy and your home care is set up right from the beginning.

Annual Examinations

Since exotic pets often conceal their illnesses, we strongly recommend annual examinations. We will check for health abnormalities and discuss nutritional and husbandry concerns. With annual veterinary medical examinations, problems are often seen before they become serious medical conditions for these fragile animals.
